Let's beat our computers into ploughshares

Well, the old panopticon has become far more tangible in recent weeks as I have been moved to a cube directly in front of my supervisor. It seems that this was done so that everyone on my team sits in the same area, but my cynical nature can’t help but suspect a more devious motive. Either way, the all-seeing eye’s gaze on me is now complete. Hopefully this won’t impair further my already regrettably sporadic posting on this site.

Today I read a few articles about a new book coming out called The Long Emergency by James Howard Kunstler. I won’t go into specifics here, just read the below links and weep appropriately.

It seems that we’ll soon have much bigger things to worry about. On that note, I’m going to begin learning a trade soon. Maybe metalworking or haberdashery or, better yet, farming. The good news is that it all leads us to one happy place: the Gray Jumpsuit era.

(I’ll note here that the coining of the phrase ‘24th century peasant look’ as mentioned in the posting from 3/3/05 should be credited to one Vincente Hernandez. Look Vinnie, your first footnote.)
